Michigans Great Outdoors

Five County Northern Michigan Tourism Collaborative whose mission is to create opportunities for collaboration and partnership on tourism efforts for the five counties while educating both residents and visitors about the tremendous wealth of natural and cultural reasons to spend time in any and all of the five counties.  The MGO collaborative will serve as the gateway for information on trails, scenic routes, and natural features available in all five counties and the surrounding region.

Our Projects

The MGO partnership is in the process of developing the assets relating to two major categories – Trails and Scenic Routes. Through this partnership, the region will be showcasing its natural assets in a way that allows travelers to explore the entire region through the connected trail systems in the region.  These two affiliate websites will aid in the collaborative and individual promotion efforts of the partners.

Affiliate Partner Website dedicated to highlighting hiking, biking, winter sports and water recreation throughout Northern Michigan. This affiliate website will be designed to specifically attract and educate first time explorers to the region.

Affiliate Partner Website dedicated to highlighting the abundance of scenic routes and assets in the region. This site will highlight and connect all of the MGO parters in the categories of Fall Color, Historic Sites, State and National Parks, and much more.

Benzie County Convention and Visitors Bureau

Benzie County CVB is the newest partner to the Michigans Great Outdoors Collaboration.  With their close proximity to the region, along with their abundance of natural resources, they were an obvious addition to the group. This partnership also allows the MGO partners to market the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, and the M22 Pure Michigan Byway. Partner since 2016

Cadillac Area Convention and Visitors Bureau

The Cadillac Area CVB joined the MGO partnership with hopes to tie its abundant natural resource asset list to its neighboring network of trails and scenic routes.  The CAVB also brings valuable insight from the MDNR and USFS, whose hubs are located in the greater Cadillac Area and have a strong ties to the organization.  Partner since 2014

Ludington Area Convention and Visitors Bureau

The Ludington Area Convention and Visitors Bureau – Also known as Pure Ludington, one of the 3 founding partners of the organization that are still involved today.  Their geographic position along the Lake Michigan shoreline and award winning Ludington State Park asset make them a natural fit with the MGO collaboration. FOUNDING PARTNER

Manistee Area Visitors Bureau

The Manistee Area Visitors Bureau is a founding MGO partner.  Their abundance of Lake Michigan and inland forest outdoor recreational assets make them a valuable partner to MGO.  Their elaborate trail networks like the North Country Trail, Manistee River Trail, Big-M Recreation Area and winter sports trails make them a valuable regional partner. FOUNDING PARTNER

Newaygo County Tourism Council

Formed from the Newaygo County CVB and a combination of area Chamber of Commerce’s, the Newaygo County Tourism Council has been an evolving partner with the MGO organization.  With more North Country Trail mileage than any other partner, and the prime paddling waters of the Muskegon River, they are a perfect fit as an MGO partner. Outdoor Recreation Asset Partners

Lake County
With the elaborate single and wide track ORV trails along with the North Country Trail and Pine River, Lake County is a perfect asset partner in the categories of hiking, biking, paddling and ORV.

Oceana County
A close working partner with the Ludington Area CVB, the Oceana County trail system includes MTB, and non-motorized trails that can be easily accessed from the Ludington area.
